The Kerala High Court has directed the Railways to take appropriate steps within two weeks to shift electrical installations that jut into the road near the Pachalam overbridge to the adjacent railway land, to enable smooth traffic movement.

The electrical infrastructure is currently hindering the smooth flow of vehicles in the area. The Kochi Corporation submitted that it had sanctioned ₹1.60 lakh and handed over a cheque for the amount to the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB). The KSEB said it had received the cheque and that an application was filed before the Railway authorities on September 11, seeking to shift the electrical infrastructure to the adjacent railway land.

Heeding a previous direction, the additional secretary of the Corporation and the executive engineer of the KSEB were present before the High Court on Wednesday (September 16, 2026), when the direction was issued. A public interest litigation in this regard had been filed by Sujith C. Sukumaran of Pachalam, based on which the court issued the direction.

The matter has been posted for hearing on September 30.
