1. Congress top brass only held discussions on Rajya Sabha and Council polls candidates, insists K.C. Venugopal

After a day-long discussion with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar in the national capital on May 26, the Congress high command was unable to arrive at a consensus on a possible leadership change in Karnataka. The party leadership appears to have failed to reach a consensus on a possible Cabinet reshuffle in the State too, sources said.

Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge, AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal, and AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Randeep Singh Surjewala held several rounds of discussions with the two senior State leaders during the day.

Mr. Venugopal later told the media, “Today’s discussions concentrated on the Rajya Sabha and Karnataka Legislative Council candidates in Karnataka. Whatever speculation you people are doing remains speculation only. There is no reality in it at all.”

2. Kantara mimicry case: Ranveer Singh visits Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru, offers apologies to the deity

Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh visited the Chamundeshwari Temple in Mysuru on May 26, 2026, and offered apologies to the deity, in keeping with his assurance to the Karnataka High Court. The Dhurandhar star’s visit to the temple follows his written apology to the High Court for “mocking” the sacred daiva tradition depicted in the film Kantara Chapter-1.

Mr. Singh reached the hill shrine early in the morning at 7.30 a.m. before the devotees started arriving. The actor introduced himself to the temple priest Sunil and informed him that he had come to offer apologies to the deity. The priest led him to the sanctum sanctorum, where he offered special prayers. Mr. Singh left the shrine soon after, said Executive Officer of the temple M.J. Roopa.

3. NGO asks Chief Justice of India Surya Kant to withdraw remarks against environmentalists

A Karnataka-based environmental organisation Parisarakkagi Naavu (People For Environment) has written to the Chief Justice of India Surya Kant and the Supreme Court to reconsider and withdraw its recent observations on environmentalists.

During the hearing of a case on the Pipavav port in Gujarat on May 11, the CJI made an oral observation: “You show us a single project in this country where these alleged environmentalists and activists say, ‘We welcome this project. Country is progressing well, we welcome this project’. Everything you drag to the court.”

4. Banners warn of ‘property seizure’ for cattle slaughter in Hassan city

Banners put up by the district administration and the Hassan City Corporation in certain localities of Hassan city, ahead of Bakrid, have sparked a controversy. Following a backlash, they were removed later in the day.

The banners, which appealed to residents not to slaughter cattle as part of festival offerings, contained a warning that violation of the law would result in the ‘permanent seizure of all properties’, including house and land, a claim that left many puzzled and prompted sharp criticism.
