Electricity Minister K. Krishnankutty on Thursday suggested that a research institute on e-mobility be established in the State with the involvement of the power, transport and industrial sectors.

Mr. Krishnankutty was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Shoonya EV Conclave 2025’ jointly organised by the Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB), the NITI Aayog and think-tank Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) here on Thursday. Such an institute would enable Kerala to track emerging technologies in the field and ensure that the public benefit from them, the Minister said. E-mobility has a major role to play in Kerala’s plans to achieve net-zero carbon levels by 2050, he added.

NITI Aayog advisor Sudhendu J. Sinha said innovations in Kerala in the e-mobility sector, such as the pole-mounted charging units, is keenly watched by the entire nation. Kerala can be a “nursery” for development and innovations can be replicated across the country depending on the customisation aspects and impact, he said.

Additional Chief Secretary (Finance) K.R. Jyothilal, Additional Chief Secretary (Power) Puneet Kumar, KSEB chairman and managing director Minhaj Alam, Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (Anert) chief executive officer Harshil R. Meena, KSEB Director (Generation) Sajeev G. spoke and RMI managing director Akshima Ghate spoke.
