Strongly condemning the killing of Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei during a major attack by Israel and the United States on Saturday (February 28, 2026), Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the attacks are part of the imperialist mentality of two “rogue nations” to destroy nations and leaders who disagree with them.

“Just like how humans display some basic decencies with each other, nations are also expected to be decent to each other. No nation should expect that other nations too should hold opinions or policies similar to them. However, rogue nations supported by American imperialism with their endless supply of arms and money as well as a hunger for war expect that from others. Their antics raise the concern whether the person at the helm of the affairs has the required mental capacity to lead a nation,” said Mr.Vijayan, while speaking at the inauguration of the the first phase of the Kalpetta township, built for the survivors of the Mundakkai-Chooralmala landslides in Wayanad district on Sunday (March 1, 2026).

The Chief Minister said he has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi asking for immediate intervention to address the concerns of lakhs of people from the State living and working in West Asian countries, which have been caught in the middle of the conflict.

“Shouldn’t we be condemning these attacks unequivocally? The imperialist forces have done things which no other country would dare to do, from kidnapping the President of a sovereign nation to murdering the Supreme Leader of another country. They have been unable to show any valid reason for these attacks. We all should unitedly express our strong voices of protest against these atrocities,” said Mr.Vijayan.

CPI(M)’s stance

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] State Secretariat said in a statement that the war being waged by the American empire across the world is a challenge to humanity.

“U.S. President Donald Trump has come forward with a declaration of war across the world as part of the American plan to establish a single world order. In Iraq and Libya, the rulers were assassinated by making up false stories. In Venezuela, the elected ruler was kidnapped. Now, Iran’s Supreme Leader has also been assassinated. Using Israel, steps have been taken to destroy all those who do not yield to the United States in the West Asian region,” said the statement.

The party observed that the situation casts a dark shadow on the lives of the expatriates, who are the backbone of Kerala’s economy. It called for strong protests across the State against the attacks.
