IMD issues red alert for six districts in Andhra Pradesh

The India Meteorological Department (IMD), Amaravati, in Andhra Pradesh, has issued a red alert for the districts of SPSR Nellore, Prakasam, YSR Kadapa, Annamayya, Tirupati and Chittoor as extremely heavy rainfall, more than 204.5 mm, is expected in isolated places on October 22, 2025, (Wednesday.)

The IMD also issued an orange alert for the districts of Kurnool, Nandyal, Anantapur, Sri Sathya Sai and Bapatla for Wednesday (October 22, 2025), as there is one depression over the southeast Arabian Sea and another depression is likely to be formed over the Bay of Bengal on Wednesday (October 22, 2025).

According to the IMD bulletin, the well-marked low pressure area over southeast Arabian Sea concentrated into a depression and lay centered at 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday (October 22, 2025). It is likely to move slowly nearly north-northwestwards during the next 24 hours.

Meanwhile, the well-marked low pressure area over Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards and lay over southwest Bay of Bengal at 5.30 a.m. on Wednesday (October 22, 2025). There is a possibility for it to intensify into a depression, over southwest and adjoining west central Bay of Bengal, off north Tamil Nadu and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during next 12 hours. Thereafter, it is likely to move across north Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and south Andhra Pradesh coasts during the subsequent 12 hours, according to the IMD.

Under the influence of these two systems, strong winds, thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in the districts of Rayalaseema and South Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Between 8.30 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Wednesday (October 22, 2025), many places in South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema received moderate to heavy rainfall, according to real time rainfall information provided by the State Government’s Directorate of Economics and Statistics (DES).

Marripadu in SPSR Nellore district-80.75 mm, Peddavaduguru in Anantapur district-66 mm, Mogilicharla in SPSR Nellore district-65 mm, Ongole in Prakasam district-36.25 mm, Allagadda in Nandyal district-29.5 mm.
