Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Saturday (October 4, 2025) said in accordance with the Madras High Court’s directive, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) will commence its inquiry into the Karur stampede, and assured that the government will bring out the truth through the investigation. “Accountability will be fixed at every level,” he said in a post on X.

“Tamil Nadu, which has often been a pioneer in India on many fronts, will also lead the nation in preventing crowd-related accidents. We will hold discussions with domain experts, representatives of political parties, activists, and the public across the State to formulate a comprehensive Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). This framework will serve not only Tamil Nadu, but also as a model for the entire country,” Mr. Stalin said.

“Let us not engage in political blame games over this irreparable tragedy. Instead, let us work together towards a long-term solution. I welcome everyone’s suggestions and inputs in this collective effort. Every life is priceless. Let us unite to protect our people’s lives and ensure that such a great tragedy never happens again — neither in Tamil Nadu nor anywhere else in India,” he said.

“The Government of Tamil Nadu is acting with utmost seriousness, taking into account all the observations and guidelines issued by the High Court regarding the Karur tragedy,” Mr. Stalin said.

“The tragedy in Karur has deeply shaken all of us. I am anguished seeing the tears of every family that has lost their loved ones,” he added.
