The government of Karnataka will use a software program to delete names of dead beneficiaries in Gruha Laxmi scheme.

“It has come to our notice that some money has been deposited in the bank accounts of dead women. The State Government is strongly in favour of all government programmes reaching deserving beneficiaries. The Department of Women and Child Welfare has, therefore, decided to weed out the undeserving beneficiaries and the accounts of dead persons. To ensure this, we will be using a software tool. It will trace out the beneficiaries who have died. Payment to those accounts will be stopped,’’ stated Minister Laxmi Hebbalkar.

Anganwadi workers will visit the homes of beneficiaries whose accounts have been flagged by the software, to make sure that the scheme is not misused.

She said that the pending incentive under the scheme was released on December 22 and would be distributed to all the beneficiaries at the same time. The disbursal will be completed by December 27.

She said that measures, like fixing technical issues, were being taken to ensure that payment will be not be delayed in future.
