A 55-year-old woman died after falling from the steps at the main entrance of her house while trying to escape from a pack of marauding monkeys at Lingapur village in Shankarapatnam mandal of Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

The deceased was identified as K. Vimala. She suffered a severe head injury in the fall and died while being shifted to a hospital in Huzurabad.

The incident has brought into sharp focus the rampant monkey menace affecting dozens of villages across several mandals in the erstwhile Karimnagar district.

Incidentally, the issue had prominently figured during the election campaign in several villages reeling under the monkey menace during the recently held gram panchayat polls.
