Noted theatre and performing artiste K.V. Vijesh, 48, passed away late Friday night in a private hospital here after collapsing earlier in the afternoon at Sacred Heart College, Thevara.

Mr. Vijesh was serving as a resident instructor, training the college’s theatre club members for the upcoming drama festival of MG University scheduled for February 2 and 3. He had written and directed the play that the students were rehearsing, and had been staying on the campus for the past few days.

“He was engaged in a discussion in his room adjacent to the training hall ahead of the practice session in the afternoon when he suddenly developed discomfort and collapsed. A staff member from the college’s nursing station found his vitals deteriorating, following which he was rushed to the hospital,” said college sources.

He was placed on a ventilator but was eventually declared dead at 11.50 p.m.

A graduate of the School of Drama, Thrissur, Mr. Vijesh was a popular theatre artiste, musician, and accomplished acting trainer who had also been associated with a few Malayalam films. He regularly conducted theatre camps and was widely respected in the performing arts community.
