The first day of July, which is also the first day of the first month of revenue Fasli year, would henceforth be observed as the ‘Revenue Department Day’ by the Tamil Nadu government. Fasli, the traditional agricultural calendar system followed in various parts of the country, starts on July 1 of every Gregorian calendar year. The Fasli year is the primary reference, be it for land revenue, updation of village records, various events connected to Jamabandi and the annual audited account of crop cultivation in Tamil Nadu.‘Fasli’ is believed to have been followed initially during the Mughal era, and the colonial rulers continued to use it. The Commissioner of Revenue Administration had sent a proposal to the government to declare July 1 as the ‘Revenue Department Day.’
