Contact information of election observers in The Nilgiris released for poll-related complaints

The District Election Officer for The Nilgiris has released the phone numbers of election observers to whom poll-related complaints can be submitted.

“To ensure that the Assembly elections is conducted smoothly, freely and fairly, the Election Commission of India has appointed general observers, police observer and expenditure observers for the three Assembly constituencies in The Nilgiris district; 108 – Udhagamandalam, 109 – Gudalur (SC) and 110 – Coonoor,” a press release from The Nilgiris district administration said.

On Thursday, preparations for conducting the elections were discussed, with a meeting of general observers, police observer and expenditure observers held at the Collectorate. Also in attendance was The Nilgiris Collector Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru and District Superintendent of Police N.S. Nisha.

Residents who wish to submit poll-related complaints can do so by contacting Tanvi Sundriyal, general observer in Ooty Assembly constituency at 80728-43589, expenditure observer Gajendra Singh at 63818-95641 and police observer Lathamanoj at 9080130347. In Gudalur, general observer S. Harish can be reached at 82482-03626 and expenditure observer Baibhamadhav Rao Dhee at 63801-31373. In Coonoor, S. Suhas, general observer, can be reached at 86105-65434 and expenditure observer Ajith Dan at 63806-77984.

“All the observers will receive petitions in person every day from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Tamizhagam Guest House, Udhagamandalam, to receive complaints related to Model Code of Conduct violations if any. Therefore, the general public, political party representatives and media persons are informed that any election-related complaints may be submitted to the observers concerned in person or by contacting them over phone,” the press release added.

On Thursday, The Nilgiris district administration also clarified that gold and silver articles worth ₹2.15 crore that were seized from a van belonging to a logistics company was released after the Income Tax department conducted an inquiry and issued a No-Objection Certificate to release the vehicle and its contents.

On Thursday, a few tourists were seen outside the Collectorate, alleging that the money they had brought for sightseeing and tourism had been seized by election flying squads.
