Jubilee Hills byelection: Voting begins on a slow note

Voting in the Jubilee Hills Assembly byelection began on a slow note on Tuesday (November 11, 2025), with a noticeably low turnout across several booths in the constituency in the the first two and a half hours. According to the data from Election Commission of India’s (ECI) Voter Turnout app, a voter turnout of 10.02% by 9 a.m.

At the indoor stadium in Madhuranagar, designated as one of the polling stations, staff and security personnel reported minimal voter movement throughout the morning. “There have been very few people who have come to vote since morning. Maybe the pace will pick up gradually,” said a police personnel on duty at the location.

A similar pattern was observed in Rahmath Nagar, where four polling booths are located within a single lane beside the National Institute for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises. According to polling personnel, the footfall remained low even after the first two hours. “All the four booths combined have about 3,000 to 3,500 registered voters, but the number of people who have cast their vote has not even reached three digits yet,” said Rajashekhar, a Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) employee stationed at one of the booths.

Among the early voters was 21-year-old Yashwant Raj, a college student from the neighbourhood. Stepping out after casting his vote, he reflected on the contrasting perceptions of the constituency. “While the constituency is called Jubilee Hills, if you go deeper into areas like Rahmath Nagar and Borabanda, you realise that despite being part of an elite constituency, there are still localities that feel neglected. I have grown up here, and the roads are still the same as when I was a child. I voted hoping for change, but with very little expectation, regardless of the candidate or party,” he said.

Each polling booth has a voter assistance counter set up at the entrance to guide voters on procedures and booth numbers. In addition, a mobile phone depositing facility has been provided to ensure polling norms are followed inside the booths. Officials are hoping that the pace of voting will pick up as the day progresses.
