Two journalists were beaten up in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore on Friday (November 28, 2025) when they were reporting on alleged corruption in the RTO office, police said, adding that seven people have been booked in the case.

According to police, Hemant Sharma, a reporter with a national news channel, and Raja Khan, the channel’s cameraperson, were thrashed on the RTO premises in Indore’s Nayta Mundla by a group of men.

Indore Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rajesh Dandotiya told The Hindu that an FIR has been registered against seven people at the Tejaji Nagar police station based on a complaint from Mr. Sharma.

Mr. Dandotiya said the FIR has been lodged under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Sections 296(B), 115(2), 351(3), 324 (4), 309(6), and 3 (5) against Narendra Chouhan, Ankit Chintaman, Vinod, Gajendra, Shankar Prajapati, Nitin and Pawan, all residents of Indore.

“The incident took place around 11.30 a.m. and we got information from a private hospital where the two journalists were receiving treatment. A police team went to the hospital to record their statements,” Mr. Dandotiya said, adding that an investigation has been launched in the case and efforts are on to nab the accused.

A purported video of the incident has surfaced on social media, showing a group of men dragging and thrashing the two journalists.

According to the FIR, Mr. Sharma and Mr. Khan were covering an alleged scam on trials for driving licence and the involvement of middlemen at the RTO office.

“On November 28, when we went to the RTO office for our final coverage and began to shoot on our camera, three men — Ankit Chintaman, Vinod and home guard Narendra Chouhan — objected to it and began to abuse us. They then called more people and began beating us and pushed us to the floor. They also snatched and broke our camera and threatened to kill us if we returned there,” Mr. Sharma alleged in the FIR.

The two journalists suffered injuries on their head, arms and neck.
