The Janata Dal (Secular) will be celebrating its silver jubilee by organizing programmes across Mysuru district on November 21 and 22

As part of the silver jubilee celebrations, the party workers will create awareness among the people about the contribution of former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda and Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy to the State during the last 25 years, said JD(S) leader and former Minister S.R. Mahesh while addressing a press conference in Mysuru on Wednesday.

He said the party workers will spread the message about the struggle of the JD(S), a regional party, against national parties and its achievements in the State to each household. “We will inform the people that only a regional party can bring about development in the State”, he said.

While the party’s patriarch H.D. Deve Gowda continues his struggle to galvanise the party at 93 years, his grandson Nikhil was touring the State to build the party after H.D. Kumaraswamy assumed responsibilities as a Union Minister, he said.

Mr. Mahesh also took a dig at the Congress party’s performance in the recent Assembly polls in Bihar by claiming that the party, which was dismissing JD(S) in Karnataka, had been reduced to a “single digit” in Bihar.

While events will be held to celebrate the silver jubilee and speeches will be delivered at the functions, the party workers will also distribute fruits to patients in hospitals.

The party’s first line of leadership in district will participate in the programmes on 21 and morning of 22 before leaving to Bengaluru to participate in the silver jubilee celebrations along with other senior leadership, the second and third line leadership will remain in Mysuru to complete the celebrations.

Mr. Mahesh also indicated that there will be an overhaul of the party’s office-bearers across the State including districts and constituencies. The office-bearers of the party, who were devoting time for building the party, will be given responsibilities, he said.

Hunsur MLA Harish Gowda, who was also present at the press conference, said functions will be held at ward levels in the city and village levels in the district.

When reporters asked if senior party leader and former Minister G.T. Deve Gowda will be attending the silver jubilee celebrations, Mr. Mahesh said the senior partyman, who is presently busy with the co-operation week celebrations, will try to come.

“He will try to come. He is more focused on the Co-operation Week celebrations,” he said while pointing out that his son Harish Gowda will be taking part in the silver jubilee celebrations of the party actively.
