The film Jana Nayagan, starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has been examined by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), and a certificate for the film is likely to be issued within two or three days, a senior official told The Hindu. The film, Mr. Vijay’s last as an actor, was held up at the CBFC since January in the run up to the Tamil Nadu Assembly election earlier this year.

The film’s delays have led to revenue losses for the film’s producers and distributors. Its delay is owed to a private complaint that led to the certification process coming to a halt. While a single-judge bench of the Madras High Court ordered the CBFC in January to immediately issue the certificate, a division bench overruled this, and the producers remained unable to secure a certificate.

Venkat K. Narayana, the founder of KVN Productions, which bankrolled Jana Nayagan, has been appointed as a Special Representative of the Tamil Nadu government in New Delhi. Mr. Narayana also accompanied Mr. Vijay to one of the latter’s visits to Raj Bhavan when the latter was staking a claim to form the government.

While Mr. Vijay prevailed in the elections, the film suffered another setback when it leaked in high quality in April. Over a dozen people have been arrested by Chennai Police in the weeks that followed in connection with the leak. The “mastermind” was arrested on June 10, the Cyber Crime Wing said.
