Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has convened a meeting of ruling National Conference MLAs and the independents supporting the government to discuss the “matters of collective importance” on June 3.

Mr. Abdullah, in the invitation letter to the legislators, said the meeting will discuss and deliberate upon the matters of collective importance and issues concerning public welfare.

Besides his party MLAs, Abdullah has also invited four independent MLAs who are supporting his government.

However, the Chief Minister has not so far invited the six Congress MLAs who are also supporting the NC government.

An NC MLA said the meeting will discuss the current issues that Jammu and Kashmir faces.

“As the invitation suggests, the Chief Minister wants to hear from all MLAs the problems and issues faced by the people here,” he said.

The MLA, who wished not to be named, said the meeting was “not routine” but a serious exercise.

The meeting comes in the backdrop of claims made by the Leader of Opposition in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Sunil Sharma that several ruling party MLAs were on the verge of jumping ship.

Mr. Sharma claimed that the Omar Abdullah-led government will not complete its term and can fall anytime.
