Shailesh Lodha, best known to television audiences as Taarak Mehta in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently opened the doors to his family home for Farah Khan and her cook, Dilip. The home tour appeared on Farah’s YouTube channel on August 7, offering a glimpse into the actor and poet’s personal space.
The tour was about more than just interiors. Shailesh also spoke about his literary journey, family life, long association with Hindi television and his Marwari roots. His home reflects much of that mix, bringing together traditional influences, books, art and contemporary spaces designed for everyday family life.
Step inside Shailesh Lodha’s house
Located in a large society surrounded by greenery, Shailesh’s home has a distinctly peaceful setting. One of the biggest highlights is the view from the property, with the society’s sprawling manicured garden visible from the home. His spacious balcony also overlooks a waterfall, a sight that becomes particularly striking during the rain. Shailesh noted that the balcony was previously longer.
Inside, the home follows a relatively minimal and practical design. The entrance features a distinctive mirror that allows visitors to check their appearance as they walk in. Religious art and objects are also an important part of the space, with images and statues of Lord Krishna and Goddess Saraswati. Shailesh associates Goddess Saraswati with his poetic inspiration.
The interiors also include a painting by artist MF Hussain, adding an artistic touch to the otherwise understated decor.
The balcony and living room
The balcony is one of the home’s standout spaces. The family has filled it with plants and created a small bar area along with comfortable seating, making it an easy spot to sit back and take in the surroundings.
The waterfall view is especially picturesque during the monsoon, adding to the appeal of the outdoor space.
Inside, the living room is bright and open, with French windows connecting it to the balcony. They allow plenty of natural light into the room, while contemporary furniture, simple decor and indoor plants keep the space comfortable without making it feel crowded.
A separate section of the living area functions as the family’s dining space. Its modern furniture blends with the rest of the home’s interiors, keeping the overall look cohesive.
The library and the red lounge
For a poet and writer, a library naturally has a place of importance, and Shailesh’s home has a cosy reading space packed with books. He mentioned that the collection is now only about half the size it once was. He also maintains another library at his home in Jodhpur.
Then there is the red lounge, a much bolder space compared with the rest of the home. The walls and furniture are both done in red, giving the room a distinctive look. The family uses the space for entertainment, with a projector making it their go-to spot for watching things together.
