A day after a video of a rowdy-sheeter lodged in the Central Prison of Parappana Agrahara celebrating his birthday in the cell with his associates went viral on social media, the prison department ordered a probe.

The inmate has been identified as Srinivasa alias Gubbachhi Seena. He was arrested earlier this year for allegedly murdering his rival and rowdy Venkatesha in Doddabommasandra.

The police had shot him in the leg after he allegedly attempted to escape and nabbed him.

Following the incident, B. Dayananda, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), ordered an inquiry to ascertain the facts and lapses on part of the prison officials.

The inmate was seen wearing a garland of apples and cut the cakes with a knife, while his associates were cheering and whistling. The video was recorded on a mobile phone and later shared on social media platforms, exposing the use of mobile phones in the highly secured prison as well as the alleged preferential treatment to the inmates.

The Prison Department was earlier pulled up by the Supreme Court for giving preferential treatment to film actor Darshan, when he was lodged in the prison.

The officials later made a submission to the court that the no preferential or special treatment should be given to anyone and rules, as per the prison manual, are applicable to everyone, when Darshan demanded extra bed, pillow, and a blanket, along with a provision to allow him to walk outside the cell.
