Indian Railways, in partnership with Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), will launch its first container train service with an assured transit time on a pilot basis from October 1, 2025.
The bi-weekly service will run from Inland Container Depot (ICD) Tughlakabad in Delhi, to CONCOR’s CTCS terminal in Kolkata via Agra and Kanpur. It offers a guaranteed transit of 120 hours, which is a first for container services on this corridor.
The dedicated train will follow the route: TICD (Delhi) – ICDY (Agra) – ICDG (Kanpur) – CTKR/CTCS (Kolkata). It will depart every Wednesday and Saturday. A hub-and-spoke model at Agra and Kanpur will allow for efficient cargo aggregation, expanding the service’s reach.
To encourage adoption, CONCOR is also offering a waiver on empty wagon haulage charges from Tughlakabad to Kanpur.
“This pilot project is expected to provide multiple advantages to customers, including door to door assured and reliable delivery for time-sensitive cargo, a competitive alternative to road transport, enhanced connectivity for northern hinterland cargo, and priority benefits for early adopters,” the Railway Ministry said in a press statement.
