The Bihar Assembly election results seems to have put to rest speculations over whether the Congress party would continue to be with the DMK or try out a new alliance with the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam in search of more seats in Tamil Nadu.

Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president K. Selvaperunthagai on Monday told The Hindu thatthe Bihar election results had reiterated the need for one thing: “There is a need to strengthen INDIA bloc across India.”

When asked if the alliance with the DMK is sealed, Mr. Selvaperunthagai said, “All India Congress Committee (AICC) high command will decide everything — seat sharing and power sharing. They will guide us. I don’t have any power to decide on that.”

However, senior leaders in the TNCC said quitting the DMK alliance was practically out of question. “The Bihar election results have put an end to that idea. We have to ensure the INDIA bloc remains intact until 2029,” they said.
