The Indian Institute of Management Kozhikode (IIMK) and Bloomberg have announced the launch of a Bloomberg Finance Lab on the IIMK campus at Kunnamangalam, Kozhikode, to bridge the gap between classroom learning and the realities of global financial markets.

The lab comprising about a dozen terminals, is aimed at equipping students with access to industry-leading data, analytics, and market intelligence tools used by financial professionals worldwide. It also aims t strengthening their ability to make informed, evidence-based decisions in an increasingly data-driven investment landscape.

A press release said that the Bloomberg Finance Lab positions IIMK along with more than 1,200 academic institutions worldwide that integrate this leading technology into their curriculum. The Bloomberg Terminal seamlessly integrates real-time and historical data, market news and analytics to help business and financial professionals worldwide make better-informed investment decisions.

To advance finance education

The launch of the Bloomberg Finance Lab reflects a shared commitment to advancing finance education in India and developing talent that is capable of competing and contributing on the global stage.

Debashis Chatterjee, Director, IIMK, said that as financial markets become increasingly interconnected and data-driven, experiential learning is no longer optional. “This initiative will equip our students with the analytical capabilities, technological proficiency and global perspective required to thrive in the evolving world of finance and investment,” he added.

Varun Chojhar, Head of Bloomberg, South Asia, said that India’s ascent as a global financial hub is no longer a projection, it is playing out in real time, across capital markets, investment flows and financial services innovation. “The professionals of the future who will lead this next chapter need to be trained on the tools that move markets today. This Bloomberg Finance Lab at IIMK reflects our long-term commitment to India by investing in the talent pipeline that will shape the country’s financial future,” he added.

James Coyle, Head of Bloomberg for Education, said that this Finance Lab provides IIMK with the full suite of Bloomberg for Education products. “That includes the Bloomberg Certificate programme that can give students an edge in their studies and help them transition into India’s young and growing financial services workforce,” he pointed out.
