“I do not think there is need for an exclusive law to curb honour killing. Effective implementation of existing laws after fixing loopholes in them can address the issue,” Home Minister G. Parameshwara said in Hubballi on Wednesday.

He was speaking to reporters after visiting some people undergoing treatment in a private hospital after being injured in a recent caste-based attack in Inam Veerapur village.

A pregnant woman was killed by her relatives in a case of honour killing in the village. Her in-laws suffered injuries.

Dr. Parameshwara said that he will request the Chief Minister to consider this as a special case and set up a special fast-track court.

“We will also ensure that the State government releases adequate compensation to the family,” he said.

Earlier, during the Home Minister’s visit to the village, victims placed a few demands before him. They include government jobs for youth, compensation and punishment for the accused.

Recently, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that the State government will consider enacting a new law to curb honour killing.
