Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency on Tuesday secured a 1,166-square-yard park site in Telephone Colony under Boduppal village of Medipally mandal in Medchal–Malkajgiri district.

According to officials, Telephone Colony was developed as a Gram Panchayat layout in 1974, with 1,166 square yards earmarked as a park. Over the years, some individuals allegedly attempted to encroach upon the land by dividing it into six plots. While residents sought to develop the area as a park, the alleged encroachers repeatedly obstructed their efforts.

The colony residents raised the issue during the HYDRAA Prajavani grievance programme, following which the agency conducted a detailed inquiry. In coordination with the concerned departments, HYDRAA carried out a field inspection and confirmed that the colony falls under Survey Nos. 78 and 79 of Boduppal village.

Although the layout was originally approved by the Gram Panchayat, officials found that LRS and BRS approvals had subsequently been granted for plots and buildings in the colony. Examination of sale deeds relating to plots adjoining the park established the park boundaries. Based on the approved layout, registered documents, field verification and statements from colony residents, HYDRAA conclusively determined that the entire 1,166-square-yard parcel is designated as park land.

HYDRAA removed the unauthorised fencing erected by the alleged encroachers, installed signboards identifying the land as a park, demarcated its boundaries and erected a protective fence around the site.
