The Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Tuesday reclaimed 2.3 acres of government land in Bachupally, Medchal–Malkajgiri district, and secured an additional 30 guntas earmarked for an MRO’s office, freeing both parcels from encroachment.

The 2.3 acre land had been allotted for a public park in 2016 by the then District Collector. The site was subsequently landscaped with plantation, an urban nursery, and infrastructure including a borewell, water sump, watchman’s room, iron gates and fencing.

However, in 2023, some private individuals allegedly destroyed the plants, removed the nursery and erected a compound wall overnight, claiming the land as their property.

Acting on a complaint received through Prajavani programme, HYDRAA conducted a field inspection with the officials concerned and confirmed the land as a park space. Following directions of HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath, the agency removed the encroachments on Tuesday, re-established the fencing and installed boards identifying the parcel as government land.

HYDRAA also cleared encroachments on the adjacent 30 guntas in the same survey numbers that had been allotted for an MRO office, fencing the land and erecting official boards, a press note informed.

Mr. Ranganath undertook an inspection of Khajaguda lake too on Tuesday, in view of news reports about the tampering of its weir and sluices.
