N.P. Rambeesa, the wife of K.V. Sunoop, who attacked P.T. Vipin, a medical officer attached to the Government Taluk Hospital, Thamarassery, on October 8, leaving him with serious head injuries, has claimed that her husband was mentally disturbed.

Their daughter Anaya, who died of amoebic meningoencephalitis on August 14, was earlier admitted to the taluk hospital. She died on the way to the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, after being referred from there.

Ms. Rambeesa told the media on Thursday (October 9, 2025) that her husband was worried after he was told by a section of doctors at the Kozhikode MCH that their daughter’s life could have been saved if she had been referred to the hospital a bit earlier. She claimed that they were told, according to a post-mortem report, that Anaya’s death did not happen due to the amoebic infection.

“After this, he was worried and under immense mental stress… We believe that our child died because she was not given proper treatment at the taluk hospital,” Ms. Rambeesa said. However, she also said that the attack on Dr. Vipin was not justifiable, and that her husband should have taken the legal recourse.
