The Davanagere district police have arrested a recently-wedded woman and her lover on the charge that their elopement and subsequent alleged harassment led to the death of her husband and her uncle.
The woman was identified as Saraswati.
She had married Harish (30) of Gummanur village in Davanagere taluk three months ago. The alliance was fixed by her uncle Rudresh (36), who is from Anekonda in Davanagere city.
On January 23, Saraswati allegedly eloped with a man named Kumar.
Reportedly upset over the development, her husband Harish ended his life. His body was found near a tree in the village on January 26. On hearing the news, Rudresh attempted to end his life on the same day. He passed away on January 27.

In his complaint to Davanagere Rural police, Harish’s father claimed that his son had ended his life after allegedly being assaulted and threatened with dire consequences by Kumar. He sought action against Saraswati, her parents, and Kumar.
Police arrested Saraswati on January 28, and Kumar on January 29. They have been charged with abetment to suicide.
