Burglars decamped with 15 sovereigns of gold jewellery, two kg of silver objects, and ₹20,000 cash from a house of an engineer in Vilapakkam village on Friday.

The police said that K. Vinoth, 38, worked as an engineer and was married to Vanaja.

Initial inquiry revealed that Vanaja went to her mother’s house in Katpadi on September 4. When she returned home, she found the main door was damaged and it was locked from inside. She went to the backyard of the house and also saw that the lock was broken.

Cupboards in the house were broken and valuables were stolen. The rear door of the house was damaged by suspects to gain access to the house.

Residents alerted Thimiri police, who registered a case. Special teams were formed to nab the suspects. The police also analysed CCTV camera footage on the route. A probe is under way.
