Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply & Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) has initiated action after detecting illegal borewell operations within the Full Tank Level (FTL) and buffer zones of Himayat Sagar reservoir, on Sunday.

It was found that groundwater was being extracted illegally and supplied for commercial use through water tankers. According to officials, field inspections conducted around Himayat Sagar village revealed two unauthorised borewells located at FTL points 33 and 34.

A storage tank used for commercial water distribution was also seized during the operation. Findings indicated that the water was being extracted and sold without regulatory approval, violating environmental and groundwater protection norms.

As per the findings, an FIR was registered at Rajendranagar police station against one Buchibabu under BNS S 303(2).

The Water Board has also issued instructions to tahsildars of Moinabad, Shamshabad, and Rajendranagar to intensify monitoring and take stern action against any further violations in the FTL and buffer zones of Himayat Sagar.

Officials said strict enforcement will also continue under the WALTA Act and related environmental laws to prevent unauthorised groundwater extraction.
