The hip and knee replacements done via robotic surgery at the Orthopaedics department at Thiruvananthapuram Government Medical College have been deemed a success.

A statement issued by the MCH authorities said here that while the department does not have the proper equipment for robotic surgery, the surgery was performed with the help of equipment which had been bought for training students in robotic surgery.

Knee and hip replacement surgeries were performed on 10 patients, led by a surgical team headed by the Orthopaedics head, Manoj Kumar and all surgeries were successfully completed.

This exercise thus served as a training session for initiating robotic surgeries when appropriate equipment is acquired by MCH, the statement said.
