IMD attributed the rising temperatures to an anti-cyclonic circulation existing at a height of 3.1 km above the mean sea level over Maharashtra.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heatwave alert for six States, including Maharashtra, where the warning will remain in place for four days till Monday (April 20, 2026).
This year, Akola district has so far recorded the highest temperature in the country at 44.2°C, followed by Wardha, Amravati, and Nagpur districts.
