The Telangana Human Rights Commission honoured Head Constable P. Sridhar for rescuing a 22-year-old woman trapped in waist-deep floodwaters at Banjara Hills of Hyderabad following a cloudburst on August 7.

Despite the dangers of live electricity, open manholes and hidden trenches, Mr. Sridhar courageously waded through the floodwaters to reach the woman, Nainika, who was shivering and stood helpless at a bus stop, the Commission noted.

He reassured her, ensured safety and arranged transport to her residence in Vanasthalipuram in the escort vehicle of the Commission’s Chairperson, Justice Shameem Akther, where she was reunited with her family.

In a formal letter of appreciation, the Chairperson lauded Mr. Sridhar’s valour and humanity, describing his actions as going “far beyond routine duty and reflecting the highest ideals of protecting human life”. The Commission has also recommended him for a medal or award in recognition of his service.
