Justice N.V. Shravan Kumar of Telangana High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the State government in a writ petition seeking direction to authorities to restrain animal cruelty during ensuing Sadar festival to be convened in different parts of the State.

The petitioner, an animal welfare activist, stated that of late, the traditional Sadar festival is being marred by actions amounting to cruelty to animals. Buffaloes and bulls are being dragged forcefully by ropes tied to their nostrils. The persons celebrating the festival are forcing the animals to perform unnatural movements, the petitioner said.

The Judge instructed the government to consider the representation made by the petitioner in this regard while granting permission to Sadar festival related events.
