The All India Congress Committee (AICC) appointed former Minister Rao Narender Singh as the new chief of the Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee (HPCC) on Monday (September 29, 2025). Former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda was named leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
An official party statement signed by General Secretary K.C. Venugopal said the appointments have been approved by the Congress president and shall come into effect immediately.
While Udai Bhan was the HPCC incumbent president, the post of the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) had been lying vacant after the party lost the assembly election in October 2024. Mr. Hooda was the Leader of Opposition in the previous House. Now, after being appointed leader of the legislature, he will become the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.
Earlier this year, in June, Congress leader and former party chief Rahul Gandhi met senior party leaders as part of the party’s Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan campaign in Haryana, following which it was expected that the state unit would be revamped.
