A 64-year-old habitual property offender was arrested at Secunderabad Railway Station on Wednesday during a joint operation by the Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF). Officials recovered 27 grams of stolen gold ornaments worth ₹3.24 lakh, linked to two theft cases involving women passengers.

The accused, identified as Meri Sheela, a resident of Moula Ali in Hyderabad, was apprehended at the railway station when she returned to commit another theft. During interrogation, she confessed to her involvement in two theft cases registered at the Secunderabad railway police station.

According to the police, Sheela had earlier been arrested in a theft case in 2019 but resumed her criminal activities after her release from jail. Investigators said she stole gold ornaments and cash from a woman passenger on platform number 7 at Secunderabad Railway Station on November 12, 2025. She committed another theft targeting a woman passenger on July 1, 2026.

Police said the accused spent the stolen cash on personal expenses and sold part of the stolen jewellery to unidentified persons. The remaining gold ornaments, weighing 27 grams and valued at ₹3.24 lakh, were recovered from her possession.

Further investigation is under way .
