The district Suchitwa Mission has decided to implement green protocol stringently for the Attukal Pongala festival.

A special enforcement squad has been formed under the Local Self-government department and the district Suchitwa Mission to completely eliminate the use of single-use products that have been banned. Inspections in this connection have been tightened across the district.

Banned ornamental items and flex boards were seized in inspections conducted by the squad.

Special teams will inspect establishments in the district that print flexes so as to regulate widespread use of flex boards. The Local Self-government department and the district Suchitwa Mission have taken steps to intensify the inspections in urban areas.

District Collector Anu Kumari released the brochure of the ‘Bhakthikku Vritthi Mukhyam’ mega campaign prepared by the disrict Suchitwa Mission. The campaign will be held in residents’ associations, places of worship, and schools.

The Suchitwa Mission conducted awareness classes for those distributing food at the festival as well as stall owners.

A vehicle with LED display will tour the city to raise awareness of the message of clean Pongala.

Security review

A joint meeting of various departments to review the security arrangements for the Pongala festival was held on Thursday. District Police Chief K. Karthik presided over the meeting. Decisions were also taken on the traffic arrangements at the meeting. Subcollector Alfred O.V. and senior officers from the City police attended the meeting.
