With the planned expansion of the Mysuru City Corporation (into a ‘Greater Mysuru City Corporation’) bringing several additional urban local bodies, town panchayats and gram panchayats under its jurisdiction, the jurisdiction of the city library authority is expected to increase. In light of this, the authority has proposed the establishment of new libraries in localities which currently lack such facilities.

The matter was discussed at a meeting of the Mysuru City Library Authority held under the chairmanship of the Regional Commissioner and the City Library Authority Chairperson.

Authorities decided to seek the support of residents and local organizations in identifying suitable civic amenity sites in their wards that could be used for housing libraries. Once such sites are proposed, the City Library Authority will coordinate with the Mysuru Development Authority (MDA) to obtain necessary approval for the sites and move forward with plans to set up libraries.

Officials urged people to submit site proposals at the earliest, as the initiative aims to benefit students and general readers across the expanded city area.
