YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) State general secretary G. Srikanth Reddy on Thursday accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of misleading the people on investments and employment figures, alleging that official data from the Centre contradicted the State’s projections.
Addressing the media at the party central office at Tadepalli, Mr. Srikanth Reddy said the data from the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), submitted in Parliament, showed that projects worth only ₹6,900 crore were under implementation. These involved 10 industrial units, of which two were progressing and would generate around 22,000 jobs on completion.
Alleging that nearly 4,500 MSMEs had shut down in the last two years, resulting in loss of about 49,000 jobs, he questioned the government’s investment promotion efforts, including overseas visits and MoUs, saying they had generated publicity rather than tangible industrial growth.
Mr. Srikanth Reddy further claimed that Andhra Pradesh had slipped from first to eighth place in the Ease-of- Doing Business rankings under the present government, after leading the country during the YSRCP regime.
Citing RBI and NITI Aayog data, he asserted that the previous government had strengthened manufacturing and industrial growth, and laid the foundation for major projects, including those linked to Ramayapatnam Port.
He also accused the coalition government of increasing debt without creating comparable public assets, and criticised the law and order situation, alleging political misuse of the police. Challenging the government to an open debate on investment, employment and industrial data, he said the YSRCP was ready to defend its claims based on official reports from the Centre, RBI and NITI Aayog.
