Deiva Sundari P., principal, Easwari Engineering College (SRM Group), on Sunday, said that companies actually conduct recruitment drives to take young women on their rolls. “This is to retain the diversity mix in industries. But, at the same time, these graduates are top of their class and are industry-ready when they pass out,” she said while speaking on the topic of women in core engineering at The Hindu Education Fair organised at the Chennai Trade Centre, Nandambakkam.
Though the requirement of women in engineering was 30% of the workforce, on the ground it was only 12%, she explained adding that apart from the specific girls-only recruitment drive, companies conducted regular campus recruitment drives too.
