With the elections to five corporations in the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) likely to be held soon, the Congress may push for the use of the 2025 electoral rolls since the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls — currently under way — is expected to be completed only by October 7, 2026. The party is also working on preparing multiple manifestos that will address electorate in each of the five corporations.

SC deadline

The Supreme Court has set August 31 as the deadline to complete the GBA election process, even as the official machinery is involved in the SIR process.

The push for the older electoral roll is coming at a time when the State Election Commission conducted a separate door-to-door visit to solve discrepancies in 27 wards across three corporations after political parties raised objections with the final GBA electoral roll that was published on April 18.

Congress sources said the 2025 electoral roll would be sought to be used in the GBA elections in light of the current developments and the Supreme Court set deadline.

Under discussion

While Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president B.K. Hariprasad and Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar are learnt to have discussed the issue on Wednesday; sources in the party said that the Election Commission is set to publish the draft electoral roll only on August 5. “We are not sure if it can be accepted in the light of the SC-set deadline,” sources said.
