The full implications of the move to raise the H-1B visa application fee are being studied by all concerned, including the Indian industry, a statement released by the Ministry of External Affairs said on Saturday (September 20, 2025) said.
The statement added that the Indian industry has already put out an initial analysis clarifying some perceptions related to the H1B program.
President Donald Trump on Friday (September 19, 2025) signed a proclamation that will raise the fee for H-1B visas to a staggering $1,00,000 annually, the latest in the administration’s efforts to crack down on immigration.
“Skilled talent mobility and exchanges have contributed enormously to technology development, innovation, economic growth, competitiveness and wealth creation in the United States and India. Policy makers will therefore assess recent steps taking into account mutual benefits, which include strong people-to-people ties between the two countries,” the statement said.
The statement added that the measure is likely to have humanitarian consequences by way of the disruption caused to families.
“Government hopes that these disruptions can be addressed suitably by the U.S. authorities,” it added.
Industry body Nasscom on Saturday (September 20, 2025) said the U.S.’ move to raise the H-1B visa application fee to $100,000 will impact India’s technology services companies, as business continuity will be disrupted for onshore projects that may require “adjustments”.
The apex body also flagged concerns over the September 21 timeline for implementation, saying a one-day deadline creates considerable uncertainty for businesses, professionals, and students across the world.
