Four women were killed and several passengers injured after a private bus carrying a group of villagers to attend a funeral overturned on Ananthagiri ghat road in Vikarabad district, Telangana, on Saturday (October 3, 2026), with brake failure suspected to be the reason for the accident.

The deceased included Yadamma, Padmamma and Pramila. The identity of the fourth woman was not immediately known.

Around 54 passengers from Kesaram village in Patancheru were travelling to Chintakunta village in Dharur mandal to attend a funeral when the accident occurred on the downhill stretch of Ananthagiri Hills.

According to preliminary information, the driver allegedly lost control of the bus while descending the ghat road after its brakes failed. The vehicle veered off its path and overturned.

Police and rescue personnel subsequently took up relief operations and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital. Seven passengers were reported to have sustained serious injuries, though their condition was not immediately known.

The police have begun an inquiry into the accident, including the suspected brake failure and the circumstances in which the driver lost control of the vehicle.
