Minister for Medical Education and Skill Development, Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Sharan Prakash Patil laid the foundation stone for a new drinking water supply project to draw water from the Khachur Barrage for Sedam town in Karnataka, on November 11.

After performing the bhoomi puja at Survey No. 705, Ashraya Colony, Dr. Patil said the project, being implemented under the Centrally sponsored AMRUT 2.0 scheme at an estimated cost of ₹47.85 crore, would provide a permanent solution to the town’s long-pending drinking water problem.

“At present, Sedam depends on water from the Sattapatnahalli barrage, which often faces supply issues. This new project will ensure each resident gets 135 litres of clean water daily within the next one-and-a-half years,” the Minister said.

As part of the project, five new overhead water tanks are being constructed across the town – at Ashraya Colony, Chincholi Road, and Kalaburagi Road, among other locations – to enhance storage and supply efficiency. Dr. Patil instructed contractors and officials to ensure high-quality execution of the work.

Highlighting various ongoing developmental initiatives, he said the Sedam Taluk Hospital’s bed capacity has been increased to 150, and ₹5 crore additional grants have been sanctioned for its upgradation. “Under Kalyana Patha and Pragathi Patha projects, roads connecting Sedam have been redeveloped at a total cost of ₹500 crore,” he added.

The Minister said his goal is to develop Kalaburagi into a ‘Health Hub’ of Kalyana Karnataka, and expressed satisfaction over the functioning of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Super Specialty, and Trauma Care Centre and other premier health facilities in Kalaburagi, urging people to utilise them instead of turning to private hospitals.

Dr. Patil said that strengthening of the underground drainage network in Sedam is underway, with only 800 metres of work remaining under the ₹56-crore project, which also includes a Sewage Treatment Plant (STP).

Executive Engineer Narasimha Reddy, Chief Officer Sanjeev Kumar, Assistant Commissioner Prabhu Reddy, Tahsildar Shreyank Dhanashree, Town Municipal Council president Virendra Rudanoor, vice-president Saizadabi, and several others were present.
