Around 40 students from Kakkat Government Higher Secondary School, Nileshwaram, were hospitalised due to suspected food poisoning after returning from an excursion to Wayanad on Saturday (November 22, 2025).

The students, all from the upper primary section, were admitted to the Nileswaram Taluk Hospital and other private hospitals. Four teachers who accompanied them also sought medical attention. Hospital authorities said none of the affected children are in critical condition.

The incident occurred after the group reportedly consumed chicken curry at a hotel near Banasura Sagar in Wayanad. Several students started experiencing stomach pain and began vomiting on their return journey and continued to show symptoms after reaching home on Saturday night.

More children arrived at hospitals on Sunday morning (November 23, 2025) as the discomfort persisted. Health officials are monitoring the situation and assessing the cause of the suspected contamination.
