Former Osmania University Vice Chancellor D.C. Reddy no more

D.C. Reddy, Vice Chancellor of Osmania University between 1999 and 2002, passed away in Hyderabad on Friday (December 5, 2025). He was 86.

Under Mr. Reddy, a professor in Electronics and Communication Engineering, the university saw several academic reforms, including the introduction of semester system in postgraduate courses and administrative development such as establishment of the Directorate of Admissions and the University Foreign Relations Office.

Significant in his Vice-Chancellorship, the University College for Women was accredited with five-star status, the highest quality rating by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) in 1999.

In 2001, the university was accredited with NAAC five-star status, and the University College of Engineering was granted ISO 9001 certification. Several new centres, courses, and collaborations with universities abroad also feature during his tenure. It was also said that Mr. Reddy was bold in deciding on closure of hostel buildings during the vacation period.

The last rites of Mr. Reddy will be performed on Saturday (December 6, 2025) at 12 p.m. onwards at his residence: Villa 60, Aditya Royal Palm, Samata Colony, Toli Chowki.
