District Collector Sumit Kumar and SP Tushar Dudi addressing a review meeting on anti-drugs campaign in Chittoor on Wednesday.

District Collector Sumit Kumar on Wednesday (November 19) announced a coordinated 120-day action plan to curb drug abuse, with a major focus on surveillance in educational institutions and public places.

Addressing a review meeting, he directed the Revenue, Police and Education departments to set up anti-drug committees in all junior and degree colleges and launch intensive awareness programmes on the legal and social impact of drug use.

Mr. Sumit Kumar directed the APSRTC officials to conduct checks on buses arriving from Chennai and Bengaluru. Agriculture, Excise and Forest officials were told to track down illegal cultivation of ganja and alert enforcement agencies.

Superintendent of Police Tushar Dudi said the police had intensified night surveillance at bus stands, railway stations and major junctions and would conduct inspections of medical stores. He urged the public to report drug-related information through the toll-free number 1972.
