Former Minister B.C. Patil alleges Congress government ignored farming community

Former Minister and BJP leader B.C. Patil has alleged that the Congress government in Karnataka ignored the farming community and the BJP would hold protests against the anti-farmer government across the State.

In a press conference here on Tuesday, Mr. Patil stated that the Congress government did not pay relief to the farmers, who suffered crop loss due to floods. He urged the State government to release additional relief to the farmers, besides the amount as per the norms of the State Disaster Response Fund and the National Disaster Response Fund.

In the year 2019-20, when the BJP was in power in the State, Mr. Patil said the government released a compensation of ₹10,000 each per hectare of dry, irrigated, and horticulture crops. However, the present government released only ₹8,500 per hectare. In case of house damage, the previous BJP government gave up to ₹5 lakh. However, the present government released only ₹1.2 lakh, he said.

Mr. Patil said the increase in price of cattle fodder impacted 24 lakh milk producers of the State. He demanded the government increase the support price for milk producers from ₹5 to ₹7 per litre and also release the pending ₹620 crore to the milk producers.

Referring to the Forest Department officials clearing the encroachments, the former Minister urged the government not to disturb bagair hukum cultivators in possession of less than 5 acres of forestland, grazing land, soppinabetta, and devarakadu lands. He also urged the State government to give ₹4,000 a year to farmers under the Prime Minister Kissan Samman Scheme.

Former Minister D.N. Jeevaraj and other leaders of the party were present.
