Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren’s grandson passed away in Himachal Pradesh’s Manali on Tuesday (February 24, 2026), after falling ill.

Police said Veer Soren, 19, had come to Manali on February 22 along with his friends for a trip and was staying at a homestay in Simsa village.

“Based on the statement of a friend, they all visited the Solang and Sethan tourist spots on February 23 and returned to the homestay in the evening. On February 24, during the day, they (friends) walked around the vicinity of the homestay and returned around 12.30 p.m. to find Veer Soren sleeping. Upon waking him, he told them that he was experiencing a severe headache,” said K.D. Sharma, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Manali.

Mr. Sharma said Veer’s friends ordered medicine online, after which he went back to sleep. “Around 2:30 p.m., they heard a thud from his room. They reached and saw Veer Soren had fallen from the bed. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital,” he said.

Veer had begun to foam at the mouth while being taken to the hospital, Mr. Sharma said. “The doctors at the hospital administered CPR for a considerable amount of time. However, after examination, he was declared dead. No injury marks were found on the body,” he said, adding the matter was being investigated.

In a post written in Hindi on X, Mr. Soren called the death “untimely” and said: “I am informing with a heavy heart that my dead grandson Veer Soren has died on February 24, 2026. He fell ill in Himachal Pradesh and was rushed to a hospital, but fate had something else in store for us. Our entire family is shattered by Veer’s death.”

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren condoled Veer’s death. “We are deeply shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden demise of Veer Soren, the grandson of Champai Soren, in Kulu. May the departed soul rest in eternal peace at the feet of Marang Buru, and may the grieving family be granted strength to bear this unbearable sorrow. In this hour of profound grief, we stand with them,” the Chief Minister posted on X.

— Hemant Soren (@HemantSorenJMM) February 25, 2026

Champai Soren became the seventh Chief Minister of Jharkhand and was in office for five months when Hemant Soren was arrested for alleged money laundering.

After Hemant Soren was released from jail, Champai Soren left the JMM citing “humiliation” and joined the BJP. He is the sitting MLA from Seraikella Assembly constituency.
