Former Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Bhaskar Rao, who has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) after retirement, lauded advocate Rakesh Kishore, who attempted to attack Chief Justice of India B.R. Gavai, However, he later apologised for the same, following a backlash.

“Even if it is legally and terribly wrong, I admire your courage, at your age, to take a stand and live by it, irrespective of the consequences,” he posted on X, responding to a fake X account that was impersonating the advocate. This attracted much ire, especially given that Mr. Rao is a former law enforcement officer.

He later clarified that his reaction was one of aghast and shock that a person, despite being so highly educated, advanced in age and experienced could attempt such an act knowing fully the consequences. “I have  not insulted the Supreme Court, nor Chief Justice or any Community. If my tweet has angered or hurt, I am sorry,” he wrote on Wednesday.
