Panic gripped a school in Bingipura near Bannerghatta on Monday afternoon after a loud explosion was heard from the school’s toilet, prompting fears of a bomb blast.

The incident occurred shortly before news broke about the car explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort that led to heightened security nationwide.

The explosion startled students, staff, and nearby residents. The school authorities quickly inspected the premises and confirmed that the sound had been caused by firecrackers, not an explosive device.

Some students out of mischief might have done it.

The police personnel from the Bannerghatta police station rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. They questioned the school management and reviewed CCTV footage to identify those responsible. Classes were suspended for the day as anxious parents gathered on the campus.

Later, on Tuesday, Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh announced a citywide high alert in response to the Delhi incident. Security has been tightened at all major public places, including airports, railway and bus stations, metro stations, malls, hotels, and lodges. He appealed to the people not to panic and heed to rumours.

“All DCPs, ACPs, and jurisdictional police have been instructed to enforce nakabandis, conduct thorough vehicle checks, and stay vigilant for any suspicious activity,” Mr. Singh said. He urged citizens to remain calm, cooperate with security personnel, and immediately report any unusual behaviour to the authorities.
