A fire broke out at the captive power plant section of a steel manufacturing unit in Chhattisgarh‘s Raipur district in the early hours of Tuesday (June 2, 2026), police said.
No casualties were reported in the blaze that erupted at Mivaan Steel’s plant under the Mandir Hasaud police station area, an official said. The blaze sent thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, visible from kilometres away, he said.

According to preliminary information, the fire started following an oil leak from a turbine generator’s control-line pipe, which quickly ignited as a steam line also passed close to the affected area, he said.
While the Fire Department contained the blaze within a few hours, the police have launched a probe to ascertain the exact sequence of events and assess the extent of the property damage, the official said.
